Taltarni Brut Taché, about $20

Proof that you don't have to spend a bundle to buy a great sparkling wine, this is a crisp, racy sparkling wine from the cool climes of Victoria and Tasmania in Australia. Taché means stained in French, and refers to the dash of red wine liqueur added to the blend to give it its pale rose hue; that red wine also shows up in a hint of strawberry flavor, bright and vibrant. With its fine bubbles, it's delicate enough to sip for toasts, but it's plenty powerful enough to drink straight through a holiday dinner.

Imported by Clos du Val Wine Co., Napa, Calif.
