Albet I Noya 2006 Penedès Clàssic Xarel-lo, about $12

The mere look of this wine - a cool, steely white so pale it's almost clear - is enough to begin to relieve the heat of a broiling August day. The flavor is just as refreshing, a zing of lemon that rings out as clear as a bell, no oak or obvious sweetness to muddle its message.

It's made from xarel-lo, a Catalàn grape that's typically blended with other grapes to make Cava, Spain's sparkling wine. It may be tricky to pronounce (just know that the x sounds more like "sh"), but, organically farmed, affordable and delicious, it's well worth trying.
