Skouras 2005 Nemea Saint George, about $13

Pronunciation is a major stumbling block for Greek wines, which is why George Skouras chooses to label his agiorgitiko "Saint George," a loose translation of the grape's name. The other stumbling block may be the bad rap that Greek wines have gotten in the past - a worry quickly dispelled by this vibrant, velvety red. It shows the grape's best side, with plush red cherry flavors that beg for a burger, gyros, or heck, even a cheese sandwich - anything that provides an excuse for another sip. And this is only his entry-level bottling: check out Skouras's $25 Grande Cuvee, too, a red worthy of a place in your wine cellar.
