The Oxford Companion to Wine, Third Edition, edited by Jancis Robinson (Oxford University Press, $65)

"The Oxford Companion to Wine" looks impressive. It feels impressive. And the amount of information it contains is dazzling. Whatever the question, the answer is here. It's humbling (there is so much to know!) yet makes you feel smart (I know what co-pigmentation is -- ha!). It's also well written, so it's a fun read. How many reference books can you say that about?
