K Vintners 2004 Columbia Valley House Wine, about $14

You know that moment when you walk into a new house, when your head reels as you wonder what's in all those boxes, where you're going to put it and how you're going to do it? Just turn around, get back in the car, and go get a bottle of House Wine (Pick up a corkscrew while you're at the store; who knows where you packed it.)

On the way home, swing by someplace like Bang for some homey meatloaf, or pick up a pizza. Back among the boxes, fashion a table and chairs out of them and sit down to dinner.

Powered by this unpretentious, fruity, roll-up-your-sleeves red (a cabernet blend from Washington state) and some good basic food, the work won't look so bad. And the stick drawing on the bottle somehow makes any room feel a little more like home.
