San Valentino 2004 Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Scabi

(Imported by Small Vineyards LLC, Seattle, WA; about $15)

After the excitement of the holidays has faded, the couch begins to look better and better. How did we manage to go to parties so many days in a row just weeks ago when we could have ordered in? Why go out when you can wear pajamas to dinner at home? Well, maybe you aren't as lazy as me. But if you are, you might want to just stir up a big pot of creamy polenta, sauté some mushrooms with rosemary to spread over the top, and help yourself to a big bowl. Then pour a glass of a soft, rich red—one that tastes of last summer's raspberries and cherries with some rosemary thrown in for kick—like Scabi, a sangiovese from Emilia-Romagna. Then curl up on that couch and enjoy.
